Cannot remove internet explorer 8 Pc#
Talked to my friend who built my pc and he figures it is the firewall. I even messed with my router, asked my roommate to reset his modem. I spent 2 days trying to figure out what's going on. but it seems to work a bit longer than Firefox. I discover that IE8 basicly has the same issue. after a short time the web browser would stop responding. After that I had issues with Firefox (Perfer to use Firefox 3 over IE8).

Then on Nov 5 I got a dialog box pop up telling me to upgrade to AVG 9 since by Dec 1'st the 8.5 is no longer supported. I was on AVG 8.5 with no problems at all. Maybe I'll try it from another PC and transfer the installation file.

I would install another browser but since I can't get IE8 to connect I can't download one. Any idea what that means? Thanks in advance for any help. BTW, when I tried the Winsock reset, I got a message "Elevation Required". I found this forum with lots of suggestions, none of which work. I thought I was good until she told me IE8 would not connect to any web pages. I then installed Symantec EP to scan for any remaining viruses. She had picked up a virus and I had to use restore to bring the PC to a point prior to the virus occurring. I ran a scan with Windows Defender and found nothing. I've done everything short of completely restoring her PC to its original backup from purchase (the absolute last desparate move). IE8 was working fine on my daughter's PC until I installed Symantec Endpoint Protection along with updates from around 10/27 forward to today (including Vista SP2). I've read through all of the suggestions here, tried them all (including restoring to a point before any IE updates, and none of them work. * In safe mode run all malware / spyware / anti-virus scans possible * Run a System File Check for corrupted OS files * Reset / Rebuild TCP/IP and Winsock library. * Check Device Manager for conflics and errors (specifically under Network Adaptors) * Verify IP address is appropriate and is set to recive an IP address automatically (

* Disable all firewall software or manually add exceptions for Internet Explorer * Make sure the "work offline" is not checked in Tools menu or the registry is not set to work offline * Check your network activity in the Network and Sharing Center - verify network connection is on Going to try to list things in a logical order here from simplest first (Vista / Windows 7 - this summer is designed for people that have an intermediate understanding of the OS) The recomendations on this forum were very helpful so I'd like to sumerize the logical items that should be done when one experiances this problem. I work for Dell "Your Tech Team" (Advanced / Premium consumer support) and came to this forum in hopes to find the resoultion on the problem in this subject. Apparently the virus must have check the proxy box and perhaps put its web address in and that was why I could only go to their web page. I unchecked it and checked the auto detect proxy box and my problem was solved. Was driving me crazy!! After a few frustrating hours trying to find a solution I was just getting ready to wipe and reinstall everything when I did one last check in the toos section of IE8 and noticed that the proxy box in the connections tab under LAN settings was checked. It got rid of the virus but when I launched IE8 afterword I could only access https sites and not http sites. Had to download Malwarebytes anti malware on a different computer attached to my network, then place it on a shared file on the network and bring it to the infected computer.

Brings in a multitude of popups and contantly says you are being attaced by a virus and asks if you want to launch your antivirus software. rogue malware that says it is anti virus software and reports a virus on your computer and when you launch internet explorer you can only go to their website. Simple solution to being unable to connect to http sites.
